Ep.12- From Here to...Hawaii? (11/30/00)

Location- Chicago Federal Building, Andrews Army Air Force Base, Hickum Field Hawaii, Honolulu
Date- Wednesday, 4 Nov. to Friday, 7 Nov. 1941
Chameleon, Locomotive, and Green Lantern were called to the Federal Building by Agent Warren to discuss a top secret mission. He informed them that they were being asked by the US Government to go on a top secret mission for the War Department. Herbert Hoover was furious but had to concede to the wishes of the President himself in a special request for them to escort a super secret prototype air plane from Andrews Air Base in California all the way to Hickum Field in Hawaii. The possible threat of sabotage or attempted theft was pointed out as the main reason for them to go on this mission. Their comrades, Emerald Dawn and Mr. Mentalo, weren't asked to go on this mission due to security reasons.
After they had agreed to go they were given a little time to pack and then sent off to the airport where they boarded a military transport to California. From there they were escorted to the hanger in which the YB-36 Nightwing aircraft was housed. It was painted a dull black and looked like a giant wedge. All they were told was that it was needed in Hawaii and that they were be in the air for a good 12 hours or so. They donned heavy insulated leather bomber gear and shown to the rumble seats in the bomb bay section of the strage craft. The pilots kept joking about certain critical systems not working and the guys flew to Hawaii on edge. They did manage to sleep on the plane in shifts in order to be able to respond to any sign of sabotage. Fortunately the entire flight was uneventful and they made it to Hawaii early Thursday morning.
After such a long flight without bathroom facilities, Chameleon decided to go invisible and sneak off the plane and take a whiz in the bushes before meeting the base commander who had come to greet the strange plane. He informed the guys that they were to be debriefed at the HQ building by some boys from COI (Coordinator of Intelligence). As they were being escorted to the meeting room they managed to overhear a warning of an impending attack but were unable to act upon it as they were hustled into the meeting room and introduced to two gentlemen who asked them how the flight had gone and then told them to feel free to leave and have a nice stay on the island. Since there wasn't any transports leaving the island until Monday they had the entire weekend to go about and play tourist.
After driving around Honolulu, Chameleon, Locomotive and Green Lantern ended up in the Volcano Room. It was recommended to them by one of the local service men as a good hang-out and in fact it was. Decorated in a polonesian style with a good sized dance floor, many service men from the local Army and Navy bases could be found there. Locomotive decided to go dance with one of the local girls while Chameleon and Green Lantern pulled up to the bar and had a beer. Soon an argument over the sinking of the Kearny between an Army soldier and a Navy sailor erupted into a brawl with Locomotive, Chameleon, and Green Lantern in the middle of it. They steered clear of the fighting but when the MP's arrived all hell broke loose. 8 of them decided that they were going to take Locomotive, Chameleon, and Green Lantern in for questioning. Chameleon excused himself to the bathroom and promptly turned invisible. He soon came back and began lifting up beer bottles and asking in an ominous voice "Where's my beer?" This freaked 2 of the MP's out and they bolted through the door. Soon Green Lantern was getting into the act and he slipped on the ring, turning into a horrible demon and leaping onto the ceiling. Locomotive took this opportunity to make for the door but was soon set upon by the remaining MP's with billy clubs which he just schrugged off. After that they had decided that they had had enough and the remaining MP's fled.
After their fun at the bar, the guys got back to base and crashed at the barrack they had been assigned. In the morning they were rudely awakened by a blaring siren pronouncing that the base was under attack and that all men should head for battle stations. Chameleon, Locomotive, and Green Lantern lept out of bed and headed for their assigned jeep. They sped through the base headed for the hanger in which the Nightwing was housed. On their way through the streets of the base soldiers were scurrying for cover as a swarm of Japanese Zero's bombed and straffed their way through the base. Explosions were going off everywhere and smoke could be seen coming from the nearby Navy base at Pearl Harbour. Soon one of the Zero's peeled off and began a straffing run on Chameleon and the Jeep. He turned the driving over to Locomotive and got out on the hood of the car in order to get off a couple of shots with his shield. Green Lantern also put on his ring and took up a defensive position in the back seat. They both fired off a couple of shots but were unable to hit the Zero. It passed by and heavy machinegun fire stitched the jeep. As it banked and came around for another pass Green Lantern managed to shoot out a gob of slime at the Zero which entangled the prop and control surfaces of the plane forcing it to crash.
Another Zero took interest in the jeep as it passed the now burning Head Quarters building. Chameleon managed to get off a good shot with his shield which ripped through the left wing, sheering it completely. It spirald out of control and crashed to the ground. Locomotive managed to locate the hanger where the Nightwing had been housed in all of the chaos but the hanger was empty. He then decided to head over to Pearl Harbor where the main focus of the attack seemed to be centered. As they drove along a small access road off of the beach they came under fire from the deck gun of a specially modified Japanese U-boat that had come aground on the beach and begun to disgourge troops and Shiki 38 and 41 mecha. Locomotive drove the jeep straight for the sub in hopes of getting out of its ark of fire and Chameleon lept to the coning tower of the sub. Unfortunately he miscalculated his landing and came down hard on his back, knocking the wind out of him. A couple of Japanese sailors armed with Type 97 carbines took advantage of this opportunity and put a couple of holes into Chameleon.
Green Lantern then lept to the deck and attacked one of the sailors while Chameleon came around and knocked the other sailor off the deck sending him into the ocean. Green Lantern then knocked out the sailor he was fighting and then went hand to hand with the japs manning the deck gun. Chameleon knocked another sailor unconcious and then commandeered the deck gun and began firing it at the sizable Japanese landing party that had begun traveling inland. Locomotive clambored onto the deck and began loading the deck gun for Chameleon but soon a lightning bolt appeared to shoot through the deck and a figure garbed in Samurai armor appeared. He announced himself as the Silver Samurai and began taunting the American heroes. Locomotive abandoned his post at the deck gun and charged the Nip villian and bowled him over the rail of the coning tower, slamming him on the submarines deck. They soon began brawling it out hand to hand but neither was able to do appreciable damage to the other and the fight ended in a draw.
Meanwhile Chameleon and Green Lantern drew the attention of the Japanese invasion force who set about returning fire on the American heroes manning the deck gun. Soon Chameleon and GL had more troops coming out of the coning tower but chameleon managed to chop one of them in half with his shield, ewww, and GL knocked another one over into the sea. Chameleon then grabbed some grenades off of the dead soldier and proceeded to chuck one down into the coning tower. After the resulting explosion Chameleon jumped down to see if any of the bridge crew had survived. He then proceeded to go further down into the sub and came out in the cargo bay facing the invasion force which was still distracted by Green Lantern who was still on the deck.
Soon a contingent of US Army soldiers happened upon the distracted invasion force and managed to capture the surviving lot of demoralized invaders.
