Date- Monday, 27 Oct. 1941 through Wednesday, 29 Oct. 1941
Dervish, low on cash and looking for some booze, wandered over to Lou's Liquers to see if he could get anything cheap. John, the clerk, wouldn't turn him on to anything so he left the place rather dejected. As he passed the alleyway behind the liquer store he noticed Roger and Joe (a couple of bumbs) fooling around with a small crate. Curious, he asked the fellas what they were up to and they told him to keep his yap shut and they'd cut him in on what they had found. Eying the Smirnoff sticker on the crate he agreed and helped the two bumbs transport their ill gotten booty to their little camp site on Grant Park. They drank all evening and got really plasterd on all that vodka before passing out late that night. In the morning when Dervish awoke he found himself covered in blood. Surprised, he looked around and saw poor Roger and Joe torn apart. As he gathered his wits and made to leave, a cop came by to check on the transients. Seeing all the blood and the condition of the two bumbs the officer pulled his revolver and told Dervish to surrender but by then he was already hitting stride and leaving the officer way behind. After that he wasn't able to do much of anything. Descriptions of him were already being circulated on the radio and in the paper so he had to make himself scarce.
